Bridge-Building Leadership Initiative
Overview
In response to the changing demographics of California, the
diversity of people and the intricacy of public issues, the
Bridge-Building Leadership Initiative is a year-long comprehensive
professional development program that brings together emergent and
seasoned leaders of color who integrate service-learning agendas with
the interests of stakeholders in diverse communities and agendas
commonly focused on by people of color (e.g., access, equity,
multiculturalism, social justice, etc.). These leaders value the
strategic importance of developing leaders of color to lead the
expansion of the field.
Participants will explore theories of leadership, multiculturalism,
and inclusion, while gaining practical skills through targeted
retreats, conference attendance, reflection, and networking. In an
effort to retain and support leaders of color and prepare them for
mobility within the service-learning field, participants will focus on
their personal development and design a long-range learning plan. The
Initiative is intentionally designed to promote a culture of
multicultural collaboration with purposeful study and purposeful
experience as Bridge-Building Leaders.
