Regional Colloquium on Civic Engagement and Graduate Education at Research Universities in Southern California
Monday, April 23, 2007
We write to invite you to participate in a one-day Regional Colloquium on Civic Engagement and Graduate Education at Research Universities in Southern California. Our goal is to build a network of graduate-level faculty, administrators, and graduate student leaders at research universities who wish to explore how graduate and professional education can prepare future academics and professionals for effective civic engagement through study, research, and service. We wish to build a community among those of us who are working in this field, across many disciplines and institutions, which will enable us to share ideas, challenges, and solutions to common problems. The colloquium will offer opportunities for:
- Networking and sharing information about what we’re each doing
- Discussing common challenges and exploring creative solutions
- Learning about resources, including upcoming conferences
This colloquium follows-up on similar colloquia over the last two years, the 2006 Stanford Symposium on Civic Engagement and Graduate Education, and the 2005 and 2007 Conferences on Research Universities and Civic Engagement hosted by Tufts University and UCLA.
